Walking through Istanbul’s streets „buyurun“ accompanies the daily life. Waiter standing in front of cafés, street seller, seller inside shops, all of them are using this word. This word can’t be translated one to one, it means a much as: come in, please come in, here you are, you’re welcome, go ahead!, help yourself. Spoken out in a kind of melody, repeating the word constantly, everyone has its own rhythm.
Inspired by the neon signs hanging at cafés, generally communicating the name of the café or what the café offers, my intention is to translate the usage of „buyurun“ in a visual image. This neon sign silently screams out the word which waiters use to capture the attention of the passers-by.
